Kurma Avatar – The Tortoise Incarnation
The Kurma Avatar is the second incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
When the gods (Devas) and demons (Asuras) churned the cosmic ocean to obtain the nectar of immortality (Amrit), they used Mount Mandara as the churning rod. But the mountain began to sink! To save the world, Lord Vishnu took the form of a giant tortoise (Kurma) and held the mountain on His strong back. With His support, the churning continued, and many treasures, including Amrit, emerged from the ocean.
This avatar shows the importance of patience, strength, and support in achieving great goals.
